Happy Labor Day weekend?
One the eve of a highly anticipated 3 day weekend, I feel I have been bombarded by sad gaming news.
- Evemon development is being suspended for an indefinite time due to RL events effecting the lead developer, Jimi. According to his post on the Battleclinic forums he stated, “If noone hears from me for more than a month, you can safely assume that I'm off for good, though I hope that the forum support will be continued by our volunteers.” Evemon has been a constant assistant for me since I started in Eve and I can only hope that Jimi's RL issues are resolved successfully, his leave is short lived, and that deployment continues soon. Good luck, Jimi.
- The more depressing news is that NCsoft has decided to close down Paragon Studios and with it, City of Heroes. This comes as a complete shock to me and the community who was led to believe that the game was doing well and preparing for further updates. For what it is worth, there is a petition to keep the game alive, but with the only reason given for shutting things down as “realignment of company focus and publishing support”, it seems that corporate execs have made their decision with little concern for players, developers, or reputation. It really leaves me questioning my desire to invest much into Guild Wars 2 when the company chooses to close shop on what appears to be a whim (and with next to no warning). We'll see what the next few weeks bring, but this is sad news indeed.
