Gaming by the Hour – week ending 6/17/2012
This week I felt like I had not put in any gaming time, but it turns out that I played for 11 hours over 13 different sessions in 7 different games. I guess when gaming occurs in smaller chunks, I am less aware of how much time I am spending. In any case, the majority of time this week was again spent in Diablo 3 where I leveled up to 33 after spending an additional 4 hours.
The Secret World beta weekend #3 took second place this week consuming 2 hours of my gaming time. I am really liking the questing system in this game as there are more puzzle quests and less “kill ten zombies” quests than I am used to from other MMOs. I also decided to give an Illuminati character a try. It will be interesting to see how they differentiate the 3 “factions” in this game.
Eve came in third this week. I missed a couple of big fleet battles over the weekend, but other than that, it seems that our current “enemies” are not interested in fighting unless they clearly have superior numbers and leadership has not made the push to start trying to take their space so far, so basically, I ran in 3 fleets that did not produce any kills or much fighting.
My adventures in Star Trek Online continued this week as I flew to Memory Alpha to get the scoop on manufacturing. I learned how to create an Upgraded Power Cell along with details about how to find resources for further fabrication although I ran out of time before I could start gathering any.
Another game got my attention this week when Star Wars The Old Republic send email that I could move my characters from my current server (Keller’s Void) to a more populated server (Jedi Covenant). As I mentioned in my post, I decided to move over. The process was simple and while BioWare said it would take an hour to transfer each character, it actually took less than a minute (after I deleted all my mail from the old server). The fun part was that once I transferred over, I ran a Heroic while waiting for a guild officer to show up and let me in. The new server definitely has more population – it was showing as a medium load on the server status screen, and it took only a couple of minutes to gather a foursome to take out Lord Tytonus in the Friends of Old mission.
I was able to get into Arma2-DayZ and only died twice in an hour. Stupid zombies are pretty persistent and when they spot you, you better run. I didn’t quite go fast enough, and I really did want to see if I could get into that house – unfortunately the door was un-clickable so I couldn’t open it. My second death came at the hands of a fellow PC as I was walking (I thought I was being sneaky, but I guess not enough) through town. This game is definitely dangerous.
Finally, I added a new and interesting game to my list this week – The Walking Dead. This is an episodic game and the first that I have tried. I only put in about half an hour, but what I experienced was fun. I will be putting together a post on the first episode when I finish it off. Fun game, and it goes along with what seems to be my theme this week of Zombies…
