First post
As usual, i am late to the party.
Having just learnt about the Newbie Blogger Initiative (NBI) a day ago, I realized I had better get started if I was going to participate at all.
As an avid gamer and aspiring writer, I have been waiting and procrastinating on starting this blog for over two years, but the NBI has finally given me the kick I needed to get started. We’ll see how this goes…
Looking back at the games I’ve played in the last couple of years, I’ve spent quite a few hours running or flying around in MMOs:
In WoW, I got my first character ever up to max level (I am pretty sure that includes single player and multiplayer games). Cataclysm gave me the chance to finally see what it is like to fool around with all the skills and abilities I previously only read about on other blogs; and with the update to 4.3, I’m even able to regularly participate in end game content with the LFR.
In Eve online, I started a few characters a year and a half ago and have really enjoyed both hi-sec and null-sec. Mining, PvP, manufacturing, PI, and exploration have all been fun, but there are a million things I have yet to try. The number of directions you can go in this game are seemingly endless, and I love it!
Other games I have played include Champions Online, Star Trek Online, Rift, and Star Wars The Old Republic. I focused on these games less than WoW or Eve. I started and got characters up to about level 20 or so and shelved them, and while I enjoyed each, something held me back from advancing to max level. Someday, I plan to return and give these another try, and now that I’m blogging, maybe I’ll document how I reached the end game or figure out why I lost interest.
Along with these MMOs, I’ve dabbled in a number of console and PC games (Civ V, Skyrim, Portal 2 among others), but mostly I’ve been living in some form of online virtual world surrounded by my fellow MMO brethren.
Now that I am starting a blog, I’d like to use it to track my further explorations into these and other games, to follow my love for the science fiction and fantasy genres, and to justify my yearly pilgrimage to Comic-Con International.
