Angels vs. Rays June 16, 2019
The game starts at 10:10 here in San Diego, 13:10 out there in Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. The starting pitchers are Griffin Canning for the Angels and Ryne Stanek for the Rays.
First Inning 0-0
The game did not start off well for the Rays as they allowed Tommy La Stella to reach first base on an error.
After a nice single to center by Mike Trout, Pujols smacks a ball right that drives in La Stella…1-0 Angels
First Inning 1-0 Angels
The Rays don’t let things stand as Brandon Lowe steps to the plate after a couple of strike outs and smacks a home run…1-1 tied
Second Inning 1-1 Tied
The Rays employ their starter strategy and after Ryne Stanek gets David Fletcher to ground out, he’s outta the game. The new pitcher, Jalen Beeks, gives up a single and a double but gets outta the inning unscathed.
Second inning 1-1 Tied
Yandy Diaz singles and Kevin Kiermaier triples him in to give the Rays a 2-1 lead.
Before I knew it, someone popped up a sacrifice fly and the game was 3-1 Tampa Bay.
Third Inning 3-1 Rays
Trout walks, Pujols singles to push Trout to 3rd. Pueblo walks to load the bases. Too bad the only thing the team can do is for David Fletcher to sacrifice to drive in Trout. 3-2 Rays
Third Inning 3-2 Rays
Austin Meadows hits the Ray’s 2nd triple of the day – I wonder if they are common in this stadium?
I have to say I did not know that Brian Goodwin hadthat goodof an arm but he showed that he has a gun with accuracy as he nailed Meadows at the plate after catching a fly from Tommy Pham. I seriously though it was gonna be 4-2 on that play but it was a great defensive throw.
Fourth Inning 3-2 Rays
Pretty boring compared to the first 3 innings.
Fifth Inning 3-2 Rays
First off I have to question the home plate umpire who called Mike Trout out on, what I guess in an extremely liberal view, strikes. Regardless, Ohtani made it on base with a single and Pujols walked. With 2 outs, Fletcher gets a ball through at Third and the game is tied 3-3.
Fifth Inning 3-3 Tied
Ok so the game is tied and we get what is the most definitive hit of the game…Tommy Pham smacks a long one to center field and the Rays are back on top 4-3.
Eighth Inning 4-3 Rays
Rays pick up 2 in the 8th on an walk, 2 singles, and a wild pitch. It sure seems like the Angels give up a lot of wild pitches. 6-3 Rays.
Ninth Inning 6-4 Rays
The Angels are down to their last at bats and La Stella gets things started with a 1 out single. Trout follows with a home run, his 19th. 6-5 Rays. Ohtani gets on with a single, but neither Pujols nor Calhoun can bring him around to tie up the game. Rays win 6-5.
